Arriva has announced upcoming changes to bus services in the Tees Valley and Whitby areas, set to take effect from 6 April 2025.
The company states that these changes aim to improve service reliability and punctuality.
For those travelling to and from Whitby, several key alterations are planned. Notably, Service 95 between Sleights and Whitby Stainsacre will undergo a revision to both its route and timetable. Arriva says that this is due to updated weight limit restrictions on Whitby Swing Bridge.
As a result, Service 95 will operate via Prospect Hill & Bagdale in both directions and will no longer serve Church Street. Arriva say:
"Regrettably, due to this additional journey time, buses will also be revised to omit Eskdale Estate and Sainsburys car park. Service 95 will terminate at the roundabout on the A171 outside of Sainsburys instead."
However, Arriva has also announced that Service 96, which operates between Whitby and Lealholmside, will see a change in operator. From 6 April 2025, this service will be run by 21 Transport on behalf of North Yorkshire Council, with a revised route and timetable in place. The revised Service 96 will additionally serve Eskdale Estate and Church Lane, thus maintaining bus provision in these areas.
Passengers using the Services X4/X4A between Middlesbrough, Redcar, Loftus, and Whitby can expect additional Sunday daytime journeys. Arriva is introducing these extra services between Redcar, Loftus, and Whitby, which will improve the frequency up to every 30 minutes daily throughout the summer. A revised timetable will also be implemented for Monday to Saturday on these services.
The Services X93/X94, connecting Middlesbrough, Guisborough, Whitby, and Scarborough, will also have a revised timetable. Arriva has confirmed the usual summer frequency enhancement will commence from this date, resulting in buses running up to every 30 minutes combined. Furthermore, there will be additional journeys operating between Whitby and Middlesbrough, along with a small number of extra early Sunday morning journeys. Responding to customer feedback, Arriva also announced a new evening timetable for journeys between Whitby and Scarborough, offering services up to 11pm.
Arriva's upcoming changes will bring a mix of route adjustments, timetable revisions, and service enhancements for bus users in Whitby and the surrounding areas. Passengers are advised to consult the new timetables for specific details on these service alterations which can be found at https://www.arrivabus.co.uk/latest-news/service-changes-in-tees-valley-and-whitby
