Adrian Costello’s side return from a two-week break from the Northern Premier League to host Belper Town today.
Saturday’s visitors are newcomers to this season’s Northern Premier League East Division, having suffered relegation, finishing bottom of the Premier Division with 30 points, 10 points adrift of anyone else.
They have, however, started their step four campaign excellently and sit 2nd in a hunt to earn promotion straight back to step three.
Their four victories in six league games has seen Belper pick up 12 points, with their two losses both coming at home against Dunston and Pontefract Collieries.
On the flip side, ‘The Nailers’ have been infallible on the road, having won all three away games so far against Grimsby Borough (3-0), North Ferriby (4-0) and Grantham Town (3-2). Costello will have to be wary of the strength Belper has shown so far away from home.
For the Seasiders, it’s quite the contrary. They have lost every single away game this campaign, including cup games.
However, their home form is immaculate, having drawn 2-2 against Grimsby Borough before picking up three points against both Liversedge FC and Ashington AFC, with clean sheets in both games too.
It is hoped that Bridlington Town will have a few players back for the Belper test. Glen Sani and Ellis Barkworth are both expected to return, whilst it’s unsure whether Matty Dixon and Jack Walters will be out on the pitch, as they both missed the Seasiders’ last game through injury.
That game ended in a 4-0 loss against Prescot Cables in the FA Trophy First Qualifying Round, with a depleted Bridlington Town team battling hard, though quality ultimately shone through.
Costello admitted afterwards that exiting the FA Trophy may not necessarily be a bad thing, as although it would’ve been nice to progress, it was never reasonable to expect us to win the competition and the league is his priority.
Saturday’s visitors, however, did progress to the second qualifying round, having beaten Newcastle Town 2-0 at home.
Kevin Bastos has netted the most so far for Belper, with his eight goals all coming in the league. It makes him the Northern Premier League East top scorer so far, so the Bridlington Town defence will no doubt have their work cut out keeping the attacker quiet.
Glen Sani is the Seasiders’ top scorer so far, with three goals.
