Two young local actors are helping Bridlington’s Spotlight Theatre celebrate 25 years in its current home by starring in a ‘70s British TV sitcom screened decades before they were born.
James Ireland is taking on the iconic role of hapless Frank Spencer in Some Mothers Do Have ‘Em at the end of March. Caitlin Painter is his long-suffering wife, Betty.
Both have had stage success prior, with Caitlin taking a lead role of the Prince in Spotlight’s Cinderella pantomime last year and James as Seymour in the theatre’s production of Little Shop of Horrors the same year.
A-level student, Caitlin, swiftly rose through the ranks of Spotlight’s Open Door drama group for new members, with director David Moore immediately seeing her potential. James, who works for the NHS, is also proving his acting worth.
Caitlin said:
“It’s an amazing cast to work with, I’ve watched the tv show and I think the cast accurately replicates the show for the enjoyment of Spotlight’s audience.”
James, said:
“ Performing really gives me a buzz. I’ve been laughing with Frank Spencer since I saw him on the telly after school and I’ve loved the show for years.”
The plot sees Betty pregnant but, as she attempts to tell Frank, he is preoccupied with possible newfound fame as a magician. With guests arriving for dinner and crossed wires all round, priceless misunderstandings are on the menu. Hilarious mishaps and DIY disasters will bring the house down - quite literally - in this ensemble farce.
The rest of the cast are:- David Duffill (Father O Hara), Manda Holderness (Betty’s mum), Andrew Toohie (David Worthington aka Terry Luscombe), Emmie- Louise Fraser (Lesley Robin aka the constable).
Spotlight’s Open Door group meets at various times throughout the year to discover new local talent. If you would like more information for yourself, or someone else, please contact David on:- deejaym2019@gmail.com
