Bridlington Kite Festival Rescheduled

The annual Bridlington Kite Festival at Sewerby Fields has been rescheduled for this year only.

The event will now take place on Saturday, 11 and Sunday, 12 September 2021, instead of its original dates in May, following the announcement of the Government road map out of lockdown.

Despite the event being cancelled in 2020, and replaced with a virtual festival, the organisers, East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s events team, along with the Northern Kite Group, wanted to ensure the fun-filled weekend would be back in 2021 in its usual format.

Councillor Shaun Horton, portfolio holder for coastal regeneration and tourism, including leisure and tourism at East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said:

“We are pleased to announce that some of the world’s largest inflatable kites will now take to the skies, above the dramatic cliffs of the East Yorkshire coast this September, and that kites of all descriptions, sizes and colours take the air for two days of stunning aerial displays.

“Based on previous years’ festivals prior to the pandemic, this one promises to be the perfect family outing – bringing happy smiles to faces and a lot of memories to share.”

The festival will run from 10am to 5pm on both the Saturday and Sunday in September, and it is free to attend.

This date change is for 2021 only, and it will return in May 2022 as usual.
