The leagues most in form team Long Eaton United welcome Bridlington Town later, who are fifth in the recent form table.
A brilliant performance earned the Bridlington an impressive 1-0 win at home against high-flyers Stockton Town last time out. Jake Martindale headed home his first league goal of the season after Ali Aydemir did well down the right before dinking the ball to the back post.
Sam Flowerdew, a local lad who plays for the Bridlington Town Rovers team, featured as a substitute for this game.
Manager Adrian Costello made the following comments after the game:
“With not having a reserve team game this weekend it was only fair to call Sam up to the first team. He has been training with the first team squad and has performed well enough to warrant his inclusion. JP, the clubs analyst, has been to reserve team games to identify those that could step up in the future. JP on my behalf will continue to monitor the reserve team and where possible I will invite local players to first team training sessions”
The victory made it back-to-back three points for Bridlington Town having picked up a 3-2 win on the road against Brighouse Town the week before, continuing the good form under new manager Adrian Costello in the fight for Northern Premier League East survival.
It saw Bridlington Town rise three positions to 10th, though Sheffield FC, North Shields and Ossett United all have an opportunity to leapfrog the Seasiders with midweek games.
Bridlington Town have come off the back of a busy six-game month of February and are now into March which also contains six fixtures. With a lot of midweek games across the two months, Costello will be relishing the opportunity to have a full week between fixtures.
Today's game will be a challenge for the Seasiders, the hosts have won seven consecutive games and are unbeaten in eight games - their last defeat coming in January against an unbelievably strong Worksop Town side.
The Blues’ recent exceptional form has seen them go from a mid-table side to now occupying a playoff position, as they sit 5th with 49 points.
Their last two encounters have both ended in 3-0 away victories against Consett AFC and Ossett United, respectively. Long Eaton will now no doubt be looking forward to returning to Grange Park.
Prolific attacking-midfielder Jamie Walker netted twice in Long Eaton’s last game, and is the club’s top scorer with 17 goals. His 16 league goals puts him second to Worksop’s Liam Hughes in the Northern Premier League East goal-scoring charts.
Saturday’s game is a reverse fixture of the first league match of the season, which ended in a 1-1 draw at Queensgate back in August. Right-back Brad Wilson was sent off in that game for a strong challenge on Matt Broadley.
The fixture at Grange Park appears a game destined not to happen as there have been four different dates for the fixture.
It was initially scheduled for December but was postponed due to the wintry weather. The game on the new date of 11th was then called off due to a frozen pitch, and was moved again to Tuesday 28th February.
However, to avoid a long Tuesday night trip, it was decided the game would take place on the free Saturday.
