It was a feisty affair at the Hudgell Solicitor Stadium, which ended in a goal each for Bridlington Town and Long Eaton, on Saturday.
The hosts started the better team, and made their pressure count. Lewis Dennison headed home after just eight minutes to give Bridlington the perfect start to the league season.
Bridlington’s dominance continued until the 22nd-minute water break. Ian Deakin managed to improve his team’s performance, as the momentum shifted as they grew into the game. This included them forcing Eddie Rogerson to clear off the line following a header from a corner, and they also threatened from Keiran Walker’s long throw. Nevertheless, they couldn’t find the back of the net and Brid went into the break leading.
The equaliser did come eventually, as Long Eaton broke down the right hand side and substitute Kam Campbell netted after 65 minutes, having only entered the pitch two minutes earlier.
The game took an aggressive turn, as there was a scrap following Brad Wilson’s strong challenge on Matthew Broadley. The former was shown a straight red card.
Bridlington gave it a good go in the last 10 minutes, having an extra man, but weren’t able to find the winner.
