Boro One Point From Play Offs, Blues Miss Out But Brid Fight On

Scarborough Athletic are up to fourth in the NPL Premier and now just need a draw in their final game this Saturday to secure a play-off spot.

Jono Greening's men struck on 14 minutes when versatile former Middlesbrough man Kieran Weledji found the net. Bailey Gooda then doubled Boro's advantage, at Morpeth Town, before the break. Weledji added his second and the Seadogs' third to get the travelling Boro fans in party mood.

Greening was pleased with the outing:

The result means a draw would be enough, against Radcliffe, this coming weekend, to secure a top-five slot, but a win could mean a home game in the promotion play-offs against Matlock Town, Warrington Town or Bamber Bridge. Crucially, Matlock may face a points deduction after a reported ineligible player turning out in two games recently that resulted in a loss and a draw, so Boro may already be there.

It's the end of the road for Whitby Town's play-off hopes despite an outstanding 3-2 win at title-chasing South Shields. The Tyne & Wear outfit led early on but Jacob Hazel quickly equalised. The hosts re-took the lead before half-time, but goals from Marcus Giles and Hazel's second saw Town gift-wrap the title for Shields' rivals Buxton.

Joint boss Lee Bullock told Whitby Town TV he enjoyed the victory:

Bridlington Town gave themselves a great chance of survival with a 4-1 win at bottom club Pickering Town, who are now relegated from NPL East.

The Pikes took the lead from the penalty spot, but Brett Agnew's men levelled in first-half injury time through Matty Plummer.

To follow up Saturday's three red cards, there were two more involving Brid as Will Annan and Pickering's former Scarborough Athletic star Wayne Brooksby were both dismissed. Shortly after though, Danny Earl put Brid 3-1 up with a 12-minute brace before skipper Pete Davidson put the icing on the cake, with the visitors' fourth.

Brid have leapt up three places and now know a win over Dunston on the last day will save them from the drop.

Agnew caught up with Brid Town TV after the match:
