The number of people approaching Scarborough, Whitby and Ryedale Mind for support with mental health issues has doubled during the last 12 months.
At the end of Mental Health Awareness week Scarborough, Whitby and Ryedale Mind say their waiting lists have doubled over the last year as the lockdowns have impacted on peoples mental health.
Service manager, Catherine Mason, says isolation has been a particular problem.
The increase in demand for support is being put down to the effects of the lockdowns.
Catherine says they want to help people feel confident talking about mental health concerns.
Catherine says the organisation needs to recruit more volunteers to help deal with the increase in demand for it's services. They hald a number of volunteer introduction sessions this week and Catherine's presentation has been made available for anyone else interested in volunteering to watch as a video.
Catherine said:
"Volunteers are key to us being able to support people across our community and we are in desperate need of more. For those not able to attend, we've recorded one of the sessions for people to watch in their own time. If you're looking to volunteer or are just curious what it's about, just give us 20 minutes of your time for us to explain!"
