Battling Blues Go A Point Further Clear

Whitby Town's 1-1 draw with Hebburn on Tuesday means they're now three points away from the NPL Premier relegation zone.

Gary Liddle lost defender Frankie Whelan to injury after just ten minutes, at the Towbar Express Stadium.

To make matters worse, the visitors from Tyne & Wear took the lead with their first shot on target, bundling home, just five minutes later.

But up against it, Whitby rallied and levelled through a pumped up Layton Watts who chipped home despite the keeper getting a touch.

It was an open clash, with Lewis Hawkins' lob looping onto the crossbar, Aaron Haswell failed to finish an inviting right-wing cross and full-back Connor Smith struck the top-right frame of the goal.

At the other end, Shane Bland saved well low down and when the gloveman was out of position, a right-wing chip fell just wide.

Liddle told Whitby Town TV he felt his side were the better team on the night:

Blues are back in action on Saturday at Prescot Cables in another six-pointer, on Merseyside.
