Bridlington Railway station will be home to a new statue from today.
A bronze statue of one of Bridlington's famous barrow boys is being unveiled.
It's been commissioned by the Yorkshire Coast Community Rail Partnership and designed by local artist Stephen Carvill who created the town's Gansey Girl statue.
Pete Myers from the rail group says the youngsters became synonymous with the Yorkshire Coast's seaside resorts.
It was a common sight in the 1950s and 60s to see barrow boys and girls waiting on platforms with their home made barrows, to transport holidaymakers' luggage to hotels and guest houses.
The new statue, which is cast in bronze, shows a small boy, complete with barrow and suitcases. It commemorates the barrow boys' history and Bridlington's heritage
Pete Myers says they are hoping to have a real life barrow boy at today's unveiling.
Pete says the Barrow boys were a common sight in Bridlington from the 1930's to the 80's.
The Barrow Boy project has been funded and supported by Yorkshire Coast BID, Community Rail Network, Bridlington Town Council, Northern Rail and the Yorkshire Coast Community Rail Partnership.
Pete says the new statue will be a lasting tribute to the work of the Borrow boys and girls.
The unveiling of the statue will take place at 11am at Bridlington Station with the Town Mayor performing the unveiling.
