A64 Consultations Continue

Proposed changes to the A64 Scarborough to Leeds road, near Monk's Cross, continue after an initial online consultation.

There is an ongoing consultation with the public continuing as National Highways look to decide how best to improve traffic flow around the Hopgrove Roundabout.

There are three options in play with Option A the 'on line' choice, which means it involves changes to the existing layout rather than adding new roads.

This would take longer with a possible three years required and mean more disruption involved as more of the road would need to be closed.

It is the best environmental option as no new land would be disturbed.

An option to adapt the A64 Hopgrove Roundabout

Option C would involve some new roads which would mean less disruption for motorists as some of the way through can be left open during building work.

It should only take two years to complete, also.

It would be better for horse riders, cyclists and pedestrians.

An option to adapt the A64 Hopgrove Roundabout

Option D is similar to Option C in terms of cost, timescale, benefits to non motorists and level of disruption.

However, it is expected to be the safest option as there are only two new junctions so less chance of collisions/congestion/driver error.

One of the queries raised by members of the public included, does this solution just move congestion further down the route?

Mairead Briggley from National Highways answered first

Daniel Briggs is from AECOM, who are working with National Highways on the project:
