Scarborough UTC has been celebrating after impressing at the F1 in Schools World Championship in Saudi Arabia.
They took part in a global competition for secondary school students combining Maths, Science, Technology and Engineering where they design and race their own cars.
Scarborough UTC's team, Unity Racing, came 7th in the world for racing- and are now world champions for Pit Display and Digital Media.
Rob Shepherd is director of engineering at the college:
Teams are assessed on a variety of areas, including:
- Car speed
- Engineering quality
- Brand identity
- Verbal presentation skills
- Students also design, build, and race miniature Formula 1 cars
Ryan is the project manager of the UTC's F1 team:
Tools: Students use computer aided design (CAD) and computer aided manufacturing (CAM) software
Power: Cars are powered by CO2 cartridges
Track: Cars are attached to a track by a nylon wire
Scoring: Cars are timed from launch to finish line by a computer

Organisers say benefits of participating in F1 in Schools include: Developing interpersonal skills, Testing teamwork abilities, Seeing ideas and designs come to life, Demonstrating good sportsmanship, and Identifying areas for future improvement.
