Scarborough's MP says he is supporting North Yorkshire Council's plan to bring in 100% council tax premiums for second homes.
Sir Robert Goodwill believes that it will benefit the local services that the council can offer.
In November, it was announced that North Yorkshire was to become one of the country's first area to adopt a mandatory 100 per cent council tax premium for second homes.
But the plans were put on hold due to new government legislation passing through parliament slower than expected.
Analysis has shown that the introduction of a 100 per cent premium on council tax bills for second homes in North Yorkshire could generate in excess of £14 million a year in additional revenue.
Sir Robert has also said that new measures are needed to deal with a tax loophole which means some holiday let properties aren't paying council tax or business rates.
Sir Robert also said that it's vital that there is more affordable housing for the local people.
