The Campaign for Real Ale’s (CAMRA) Good Beer Guide – the UK’s best-selling beer and pub guide – is celebrating its 52nd edition

More Information (This is the Coast is not responsible for external websites)

The Scarborough branch is holding an event to celebrate the inclusion of the pubs and clubs in the local area that are included in this year’s Guide. This will take place on Saturday 28th September 2024 at The Corporation Club (Scarborough Borough Councils Employees Welfare Club), Dean Road Scarborough, YO12 7QS . The event will take place between 2pm and 6pm

The event will include a presentation at 3pm. The afternoon is also a focus for CAMRA and non CAMRA members to socialise and meet their branch committee.

Mike Stock, the branch Chairman said:

“Congratulations to all the publicans who have achieved entry into the 2025 Good Beer Guide. A lot of hard work and dedication is needed to gain one of the highly prized places allocated to Scarborough Branch. Recent years have seen huge challenges for the hospitality industry with the pressures only exacerbated by the recent cost of living crisis. Every licensee, landlady and landlord should be applauded and their efforts to remain open and trading need to be supported going forward.”

There are 17 pubs from our area, which includes Scarborough, Filey, Pickering and Malton, and all villages in between, included in the Guide. The entries are voted for by members following a policy of pub surveys and noting beer quality scores given by members, as outlined in the National CAMRA Good Beer Guide policy.

Alongside pubs which regularly make the GBG, including our Pubs of the Year, Scholars, Scarborough and The Sun, Pickering, there are two new pubs in the guide, Omni in Malton and The Station, in Filey, and the Oak Wheel, Burniston, returns to the guide for the first time since being last included in 1989 and 1991. If you want to know the other entries, and those selected nationwide, please buy the book!

The local breweries, Brass Castle, Great British Breworks, North Riding Brewery and North Riding (Brewpub), Scarborough, and Wold Top are all featured

The Good Beer Guide 2025 will be available to purchase at the launch for a members price of £12 or non-members price of £14.
Research commissioned by CAMRA found that people who have a local rate themselves as significantly happier because of it, and have more close friends, and the pubs on television reflect this feeling. Some of Coronation Street’s and Emmerdale’s most iconic, touching and memorable moments have taken place in their respective pubs.
