Scarborough Befriending Training

Wednesday, 20 November 2024

Time
13:00 - 16:00

Become a befriender and change lives in your local community, providing support to people experiencing isolation and loneliness.

More Information (This is the Coast is not responsible for external websites)

In a world where digital connections often overshadow face-to-face interactions, the need for genuine human connection has never been more critical as isolation and loneliness have grown to become one of the biggest public health concerns in England. Volunteer numbers have plummeted post Covid as more people choose to volunteer remotely or on an ad-hoc basis which is leaving services across our communities desperate for help. Scarborough, Whitby and Ryedale Mind are calling on people in the Scarborough community to sign up as befrienders, with the next training sessions running on the 19th and 20th of November.

Our befriending training is designed to support volunteers to better understand the impacts of loneliness and learn how to cultivate meaningful relationships with people who have become disconnected from our community. Being a befriender not only gives you the opportunity of making a huge difference to the quality of life of an individual but also helps you develop your own confidence, self-esteem and boosts your mental wellbeing through giving back to your community. You'll get lots of support from us, invites to social and training events and all out of pocket expenses.

If you can't make these dates, please send us an expression of interest at www.swrmind.org.uk/work-with-us/volunteer and we'll let you know when new training sessions are coming up.
