Pickering Musical Society is moving into the next stages of rehearsals as preparations for this year’s pantomime, Robinson Crusoe, gather momentum.
Written by past society life member Ron Hall and directed by the ever-creative Luke Arnold, this much-loved production is shaping up to be another magical and laughter-filled adventure at The Kirk Theatre.
Stealing the show with their comedic antics are fan favourites Marcus Burnside and Stephen Temple as Dame Esmerelda Crusoe and Silly Billy Crusoe.
Joining them are Rachel Anderson, playing the Brazilian beauty Señorita Juanita Gonzales, and William Smithson as Captain Birdseye of the good ship All-Bran.
Meanwhile, John Brooks once again embraces his role as the dastardly villain, delivering the boos and hisses audiences love.
Costumes play a vital role in bringing the vibrant world of panto to life, and Maureen Symonds, who heads the wardrobe department, has been hard at work to make it all happen.
Drawing on the society’s extensive costume stores and sourcing pieces from the York Theatre Royal and even as far afield as Belgium, Maureen has created a stunning array of outfits.
In particular, Marcus Burnside’s costumes as Dame Esmerelda Crusoe promise to steal the show with their jaw-dropping creations and fantastic concoctions.
Expect dazzling dresses, over-the-top accessories, and plenty of surprises that are sure to leave audiences in stitches and awe.
The show’s musical concoctions, led by Clive Wass, include an exciting mix of songs from Guys and Dolls, Calamity Jane, and Shrek the Musical, along with pop favourites such as In The Navy.
The lively numbers are sure to have the audience tapping their feet and singing along.
With more than 30 young dancers from the Sarah Louise Ashworth School of Dance adding their energy and sparkle to the stage, the production promises to be a feast for the senses.
“Our backstage crew is phenomenal,” says Director and Theatre Manager Luke Arnold.
“The dedication and creativity they bring to the table every year never fail to amaze me. Dress rehearsals are when everything comes together, and it’s incredible to see everyone’s hard work pay off.”
Audiences are in for a treat, with a story that journeys from the local villages of Stape and York to exotic locations full of sun, sea, and adventure.
With its vibrant storytelling, catchy songs, and hilarious humour, Robinson Crusoe is the perfect antidote to the winter blues.
The panto takes place between Wednesday, January 15 and Sunday, January 26, with matinee performances on a Saturday and Sunday (there is no performance on Monday, January 20).
Tickets are now available starting at £14, with a family ticket (two adults, two children) priced at £50.
Book your tickets online at www.kirktheatre.co.uk, by phone at 01751 474833, or in person at the box office on Tuesdays from 11am to 1pm.
Join the Pickering Musical Society for a panto packed with fun, laughter, and a little winter sunshine - Robinson Crusoe is a treasure not to be missed!
