What is No Smoking Day?
No Smoking Day encourages smokers across the country to join in and give quitting a go. There are a range of free quitting tools including:
- Free expert support from your local stop smoking service – offered through Xyla for residents in East Riding.
- NHS Quit Smoking app
- Facebook online communities
- Daily emails and SMS messages
- Online Personal Quit Plan
- Advice on stop smoking aids
Many people try to quit smoking using their willpower alone, but it's so much easier to go smoke-free with the right help and support around you. Speak to friends, family and colleagues and let them know you want to quit – you may even find someone to quit with. Research shows that quitters who have someone to help them on their journey are more likely to quit for good.
The East Riding quit smoking service runs in partnership with Xyla and offers one to one tailored support, so if you have been unsuccessful in stopping before, contact their friendly and qualified team of health coaches who will create an individual support plan just for you.
The programme runs for 12 weeks and includes access to free nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) as part of the service, including patches, gums, sprays or vapes.
Weekly sessions take place face-to face in community venues across East Riding or virtually depending on personal preference, plus access to a dedicated health app for support.
The day you stop smoking, the body starts clearing itself of toxins and the repair process begins.
Within days or weeks:
- Your sense of taste and smell improves
- You start to breathe more easily
- Better blood circulation to your heart and muscles will make physical activity easier and give you more energy.
