You would experience the rewards of helping a child with a disability or complex needs reach their full potential, whilst at the same time knowing that you have allowed their family to have a much needed rest.

Short breaks are usually for regular weekends or overnight stays and sometimes for outreach support or day care, too.  

Fostering North Yorkshire aim to ensure that the children have a positive experience, their needs are met and they are given the opportunity to access new experiences and meet new people. The skills, experience and interests of carers are matched with the needs and interests of the children and you will likely build a strong and meaningful bond with the child and their family over time.

What they look for in short break carers:

• Energy and enthusiasm – and a desire to make a difference to the life of a local child with additional needs
• Resilience and patience
• Possibly some experience of caring for children with additional needs in either your personal or work life – though this is not essential, as training and support will be given
